A Cosy English Café in the Northern Quarter – Fred’s

Proper British classics, done really well 🧡

Fred’s is an English café tucked away in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre in the Northern Quarter, and they do some proper British classics here: Scotch eggs, sausage rolls and loads of bakes. I was gutted the sausage rolls had already sold out, but that just means I have to come back again soon 👀

The Ploughman’s slice caught my eye straight away. They reheat it for you, and I really enjoyed the crust. You also have to get the iconic hash browns with their homemade sauce.

The Northern rarebit was really interesting too; it’s finished with a touch of beer, which you can actually taste. Last but not least, probably one of the best cooked Scotch eggs I’ve had in a long time. That gooey yolk was just perfect.

I absolutely love little spots like this: simple comfort food, but done really well. We definitely need more places like this, and I can’t wait to be back 🧡
