A traditional Mediterranean Greek restaurant with great atmosphere in Deansgate.
S has never tried any Greek food before, so she decided to try something new this time. After doing a bit research online, S chose Dimitri’s since it’s close to the tram station and it’s been open for more than 25 years.
The front of the restaurant is a bar area, and you have to walk into the back to get to the dining area. However, once you enter the dining area, you will be surprised to see there’s an outdoor dining place in a heated arcade which looks amazing. S loves the atmosphere of the outdoor dining, and S can imagine that it’ll be so beautiful at night with some live music.
There are different menus for you to choose depends on the time you visit. Since S visited on Saturday lunch time, S chose from the a la carte menu. S chose 3 meze which were Spicy Chorizo Bravas(£6.75), Swordfish(£8.5) and Whitebait(£5.25); with a main of Lamb Chops with pilau(£18.5).
S loved the Whitebait the most between all the 3 meze S ordered that day. The taste of this dish reminded S a similar type of Taiwanese street food. S loved that the batter was not too thick and that you can still taste the flavour of the fish with some crispy skin.
The Spicy Chorizo Bravas was quite good overall, though it would be even better if the potatoes were crispier. However, the chorizo here was just right because it was not too salty. Furthermore, the mixed flavour with spicy chilli peppers salsa definitely gave this dish a good kick.
When S saw Swordfish on the menu, it was the first item she decided to try since she had never tried it before. The texture of swordfish was more firm than S expected. The fennel sauce with the lemon gave the swordfish a rich and nice flavour which S really liked.
S was debating kebabs or lamb chops that day; S chose lamb chops in the end and it was a good choice. The lamb chop was tender with a char-grilled scent. Moreover, the pilaf matched well with the flavour of the lamb chops and the Tzatziki sauce. S would like to try their kebab dish next time, especially the fish kebab as it looks quite tempting to S!
Overall, S was happy that she picked here as the first Greek food that she tried. After this, S definitely would like to try more Greek food. S would definitely recommend the seafood meze and the lamb chops which were pretty good. Furthermore, the portion of meze was generous and the staff were all super friendly. S would definitely visit it again on a Saturday night in the summer. It’ll be awesome to have some amazing Greek food with live music and sit in the arcade area.
